Welcome to the CCE library website, I hope that you are able to find information you are interested in and that your questions are answered. I have been so happy to start my second year at CCE and am enjoying making the library a little more "home-like." I hope you have heard your student talk about the library and that they are excited about the books they have been bringing home.
I believe that the library is a place where students can explore, be inspired and stretch themselves as readers. I want the kids to feel confident in their ability to choose books for themselves and be excited about what they are borrowing. You might notice from time to time that they choose a book that is too hard or one that you might think is too easy. Don't worry about these things, sometimes they are excited about a new picture book that is very enjoyable to them and they want to experience the book again at home. These types of experiences are great for increasing confidence and fluency in readers. If the child chooses a book that is above them it is possible they will work to read it or that they will quickly realize there isn't much there for them to learn or to read and they will return it. The more they read and are read to the better readers they will be. It is so much fun to see what books they choose and what their interests are.
The students are encouraged to choose books that are "just right" fits for them and I allow them to check out more than one book at a time (depending on grade level) for this reason. I want them to learn to choose appropriate books that will push them as readers but also to feel freedom to choose books that are above and below their comfort level.
Please contact me if you have any questions about anything or if you would like to volunteer in the library.
